Mrs. Kelli Barney

Hello Collegiate Panthers!!! My name is Kelli Barney and I am the Pre AP Biology Educator. I am from Clarksdale, MS. I attended THEE Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. As an undergrad student, I juggled raising three wonderful children, Kailey, Kelton, and Kolby, 19 hrs per semester of coursework, and working as a Peer Educator for a non-profit HIV testing center where I educated youth on HIV/ STD Prevention and Protection. My story is truly one of diligence and extremely hard work. With the help of my husband, my Mother, Grandmother and other members of my family, I was able to graduate from Jackson State with a BS in Biology.

As a fairly new educator I have learned many new, challenging, and exciting things about the world of education. Education is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next. I believe that education is the most beneficial factor in one's life. The role of the student in education is to be open to learning new material and concepts. Opening a student's mind to learning can be done by simply showing a student that education can be, should be and is exciting! As a teacher, it is my duty to bring the "fun" back into the classroom. Everyone loves a happy environment and school should be just that; full of smiling students with the will to learn.

As an educator, my role in education is to not only teach but to provide a safe and secure environment in which a student can mature socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Students should know that in the classroom they will be free to express themselves, be different and stand proud of those differences.

As a parent of children who value their education and love to learn, it is equally important to me as an educator to spark that same love of learning in my students as I have been able to do for my children. The children truly are our future and through teaching, training and research I will supply them with what is essential to lead the next generation of learners with pride.
