My name is Ms. Hamm and this is my 7th year of teaching high school science. For my first year, I taught at an alternative charter high school in Fort Worth where I taught Biology, Anatomy and Physiology as well as Forensic Science. However I have been teaching Biology at Duncanville High School for the last six years and I love teaching the students at DHS! My goal is to stretch my student's thinking so that they become comfortable critically analyzing information and learn how to think outside of the box. I integrate teaching my students skills to become a better student overall so that I can prepare them for the rigor that is found in a college classroom. My hope is that my students apply these skills to future classes as well as future employment opportunities. I believe in expanding student's frame of reference so they learn how to synthesize information from all perspectives to collaborate on problem solving.
In summer of 2016 I teamed up with Ms. Falcon (another biology teacher) to organize a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands for 11 days! Several of our former students traveled with our group to learn more about biodiversity and a sustainable community as well as getting some real world experience in community service. We assisted a local village in the Andes mountains with building a new school. In 2018 Ms. Falcon and I took another group of students to Costa Rica where we got to explore some of the natural wonders. These were the experience of a lifetime and I look forward to sharing all of the knowledge I acquired with my future students. More information to come on if we are doing another trip next year. Stay tuned!
We are ecstatic to have explored our love of the life sciences in such biology-rich environments and I want to continue to inspire my students to make a difference in the world. In 2017 I completed my masters degree in special education and behavior analysis. When I'm not busy thinking of ways to encourage, engage and educate my students, I enjoy reading, having family game nights, traveling, swimming and going on hikes with my dog, Motley.
