Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson
Mrs. Thompson is in her seventeenth year of teaching Special Education. She currently teaches Functional Math and Science in the FAST program at Duncanville High School. Mrs. Thompson also is the head coach of the Duncanville Sparklers, an inclusive cheerleading team at Duncanville High School.
Mrs. Thompson graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education in 2003 and received her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Science minor from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in May 2015.
Before making the transition to Texas, Mrs. Thompson held the position as a Special Education Teacher for five years in Trumbull, Connecticut at the St. Vincent's Special Needs School. During her career at St Vincent's Special Needs, Mrs. Thompson was head teacher of a self-contained special education classroom for high school aged students. She also served as prom committee chair for 4 years.
Currently, Mrs. Thompson teaches Functional Math and Science at Duncanville High School. Her courses include: Functional Biology, Functional Integrated Physics and Chemistry, Functional Environmental Science, Functional Algebra 1, Functional Math Models with Geometry Applications, Functional Geometry and Functional Math Lab.
The Duncanville Sparklers are an inclusive cheerleading team which means that the team consists of regular and special education students from the DHS. In 2015, the Sparklers brought a team of 9 cheerleaders (5 special needs and 4 regular ed students) to Los Angeles, California where they cheered at the Special Olympics World Games. During the school year, the Sparklers perform at both regular school and Special Olympics events throughout the school year including: pep rallies, varsity football & basketball games, Special Olympics basketball and school/community meetings and events.
