Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Ifeoma Vivian Ihim

My name is Ifeoma Vivian Ihim. I currently teach 8th-grade math and Algebra 1 Pre-Ap. This is my second year of teaching at Reed Middle School and I am currently the Head of Department of Math. I am originally from Nigeria and received my undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Statistics in my home country. My graduate work was in business management (MBA), project management (M.Sc) and Masters in math education respectively. After my undergraduate degree, I worked in the accounts department of the Nigerian State Ministry of Finance for five years. Then I worked as the head of the Planning Research and Statistics department of the state Civil Service Commission for another five years.

In 2008, my family and I moved to Scotland where I completed a master’s program in math education at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Upon graduation, I taught as a secondary school math teacher in both England and Scotland from 2010-2012. I am happily married and my family is blessed with four children, 2 boys, and 2 girls. In August 2012, my family moved to the United States, and I continued my work as a teacher. In Powell Tennessee, I worked in First Baptist Academy as a math teacher, teaching middle and high school math. I also worked at Franklin Christian Academy as a math teacher in middle and high school for 2 years. In 2016, my family relocated to the state of Texas and I picked up a teaching position in Fellowship Christian Academy Dallas, where I taught 4th-8th-grade math classes for the 2016/17 academic year. In 2017/2018 academic year, I was promoted to become the instructional math coach for the elementary teachers while still teaching 6th-grade math, 7th-grade pre-algebra class, and an 8th-grade Algebra 1 class.

I hold the (ACSI) Association of Christian Schools International certification (secondary math) and the Texas certification for Mathematics 4-8.

I have a passion for children and young people including those with different forms of learning disabilities, ranging from mild to moderate, severe and even specific learning disabilities.

These passions have motivated me to work with different people from diverse areas within this category for many years.

I have about 11 years of teaching experience, and within these years, I have taught classes ranging from 4th-grade math to 12-grade math both internationally and in the United States. I have worked in both public and private school sectors within these times and have the experience of working in many different educational settings.

I have the cross-continental experience, having worked in Africa, Europe, and the United States and these unique places have provided me with the opportunity to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. I love diversity and can communicate effectively at all levels.

I am a dynamic, practical individual who is not rigid but flexible and love to communicate my love and passion for math to my students daily.
